12-27-08

We are currently in Richards Bay, South Africa waiting for the weather to stabalize a bit before we sail south to round the Cape of Good Hope.

We are still in Richards Bay Watching the weather before sailing south. We thought we had a good weather window identified but it did not work out.

We have safely arrived in Durban. We saw a very short weather window and started the trip down the South African coast. Motor was on the whole way in light winds and sloppy seas.

01-23-09

It finally looks like we have a large enough weather window to try for East London about 259 NM to the south. We will be getting underway from Durban at first light tomorrow.

We are now rafted alongside the French yacht Julie in the Buffalo River, East London, South Africa. Fast trip from Durban reaching 11 knots at times in the current. Lots of shipping and traffic.

02-02-09

Arrived in Simon's Town only minutes before dark yesterday. We are very glad to have rounded Cape Agulhas, which is the southern most point of the African Continent. We saw lots of seals in the water while underway! We are now preparing to depart on our voyage across the South Atlantic.

02-07-09

Tomorrow morning at dawn we begin our passage across the South Atlantic Ocean. The wind has been howling here in Simon's Town with one gust recorded to 70 knots. We will make our exit in a short weather window and sail towards kinder latitudes as quickly as possible. It may be a long time before we get internet access again. You can follow our progress by clicking the latest position tab as we can update it while underway through our ham radio. Next port of call - St Helina

We have been recovering from the long Altantic crossing here in Trinidad for a little over a week. We were quite happy to enter the Caribbean. We are about to get back underway for Texas via Isla Mujeras off the Yucatan. We are still watching cold fronts come across the Gulf of Mexico and need to let the season calm down just a bit more before leaving.

07-24-09

We are currently in Colorado visiting my sister and family. It took us 18 days to sail from Trinidad non-stop to Galveston, Texas. We are still in culture shock after returning to the States after all these years. Rainbow Chaser is now decommissioned in the Kemah Texas area awaiting our return. We bought a 4wd and are on our way to Alaska!

07-29-09

We have now traveled through Rocky Mountain National Park, Teton's National Park and Yellowstone National Park on our way to Alaska! We have seen Antelope, Mule Deer, Elk and Buffalo! We are enjoying seeing our own country after so many years abroad. Should be in Canada in a few days after going by Glacier National Park.

We are aboard Rainbow Chaser in Kemah Texas readying her to sell. It was a hard decision. We spent the last 6+ months on our new land in Alaska and realize our future is up there!
